So… How Bad Is It To Skip Brushing Your Teeth?

We've all done it. Tired after a long day, we've all thought: "Oh it's fine, just this once," and crashed into our bed without brushing our teeth. But just how bad is it to fall asleep without having brushed teeth?

As it turns out, it's actually super gross. Try running your tongue along your teeth, right around the gum line - feel anything sticky, rough, or fuzzy? That's the 'plaque' that we here at Dental Health P.C. keep harping on all the time. And what's so bad about it, you ask? It's a first step to losing teeth. The bacteria in plaque secrete acids that eat away at the enamel of the teeth and cause cavities.

Brushing your teeth disrupts this, clearing away bacteria, neutralizing acids, and preventing tooth decay. But it only works if you actually brush, and skipping even one night can initiate the process of a cavity. That's why it's so important to brush twice a day and floss daily - those are the only things that can break up the growth of bacteria as plaque and safeguard those pearly whites. What's more, regular teeth-cleanings by a dental professional are necessary to remove any plaque that has hardened into tartar.
